Drop Off Shredding Frequently Asked Questions

17 Most Common Questions Regarding Drop-Off Paper Shredding

Yes, there is a place in San Diego where you can drop off your documents for shredding!

In the space below, I will endeavor to answer all your questions, so if you have a minute and don’t mind a little reading, I’ll begin…

How much do you charge?

You have 2 Options at Total Secure Shredding and they are as follows:

  • $ 7.95per file box: Watch while you wait for Strip Cut Shred (Always available)
  • $ 4.95 per file box: Drop off and we will shred your documents and mail or email a Certificate of Destruction within 3 business days.

What is a Standard Size File Box?

We charge by the Standard Size File Box which is about the size of a Case of Copy Paper. The actual measurements are 15″ length x 12″ width x 10″ height.

What if I don’t have my documents in a Standard Size File Box?

If you don’t have your documents in a Standard Size File Box, we will provide a visual estimate once you come down to our facility. In most cases, a File Box will hold 25 to 30 pounds of paper. Of course, it can hold more or less depending on how well it is packed. Customers, just like you, all the time bring down their documents in bags and odd-sized file boxes. And all the time, we provide them a great value!

Where are you located?

We are located at the following address:

7377 Convoy Ct Ste C

San Diego, CA 92111

We are located in Kearny Mesa just off the 805 and 1 block north of Clairemont Mesa Blvd.

What are your hours?

Our drop-off hours are:

Monday through Friday: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm

Saturday:10:oo am to 2:00 pm

Sunday: CLOSED

Do I need to make an appointment?

No. Just swing by our facility with your documents whenever you’re ready. However, if you want Cross Cut Shredding, please call ahead to make sure it is available.

Is there parking available?

Yes. You can park along the Right Hand Side of the Building up to the orange cones.

How long does it take to shred?

We shred a full Standard Size File Box in approximately 1.5 to 2 minutes.

Do I have to worry about paper clips, staples, and envelopes?

In short, NO. Our shredding machine will eat through paper clips, staples and envelopes. Anything that is not good for your shredders to eat, we will sort it out and throw it in the trash.

Here are a few things we don’t shred:

  • 3 Ring Binders
  • Anvils
  • Hammers
  • Screw Drivers
  • Staplers
  • Shoes
  • Old underwear
  • Used bathroom tissues and Q-Tips
  • Old Bowling Trophies
  • Pens
  • Paper Weights

Just because you may bring your documents in a garbage bag doesn’t mean you should include garbage.

Can I shred the stuff myself?

NO… A Total Secure Shredding employee will feed all your documents into the shredding machine.

Is this only for businesses?

No. We are open to everyone for our Drop Off Shredding Services – Residential and Business.

What if I only have a small amount?

That’s no problem. We gladly shred small amounts every day. However, our minimum charge is one Standard Size File Box or about 25 to 30 pounds of documents.

Do you charge by the pound?

No. We charge by the Standard Size File Box. We don’t charge by the pound because that would require a scale that is certified by the County of San Diego. To be quite frank, I don’t need the extra-governmental hassle. Consequently, we only charge by the File Box or we will provide a visual estimate. Since a standard-size file box typically holds 25 to 30 pounds of paper, that equates to approximately $0.275 per pound for witnessed Strip Cut Shredding.

Can I have my shredded paper back?

No. All shredded paper stays with us. What do you do with all that shredded paper? All shredded paper gets bailed and recycled with an approved recycling service.

Can I have my boxes back?

Yes. We don’t shred your boxes. If you don’t want your boxes back, that’s no problem. We break them down and they are recycled.

I think that answers the vast majority of questions we get. However, if you still have one that needs answering, please feel free to give us a call at: (619) 295-5474 OR… Ask a question in the comment section below and I’ll be happy to answer!

Other than that, I’ll see you down at our facility!
